David Hepinstall, Director of High School Bands.

Dave graduated from Zeeland High School in 2005 as a part of the last class to graduate before they split into Zeeland East & West. He participated in band, of course, being a trombone section leader in his junior and senior years and played baseball for Zeeland. He attended Western Michigan University from 2005-2010, studying music education, and participating in many musical ensembles including the Jazz Lab Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Trombone Choir, and the Bronco Marching Band. As a member of the Bronco Band, Dave has performed in the Rogers Center in Toronto, ON, Gillette Stadium in Houston, TX, and has performed at Ford Field, Michigan Stadium, and Spartan Stadium. He also accompanied the Trombone Choir to Washington DC in 2010 for a performance at the International Trombone Workshop.

Dave joined the Plainwell teaching staff in the fall of 2010 assisting at the high school and teaching all the middle school bands. He started the Plainwell Pep Band in his 2nd year, a unique and energetic ensemble that performs at Friday night Varsity Basketball games. He has also been assisting the varsity baseball team in the high school since working in Plainwell. He describes his job as the "best in the world" because of the great, hard-working students, supportive parents and administrators, and the great teaching staff he will never stop learning from, especially Mr. Mundo!

Dave married his high school sweetheart in 2010, Chrissie Snyder, and they have a cat together, Noah. In addition to teaching, Dave does marching band arrangements for Lakeview High School in Battle Creek and his alma mater at Zeeland. His other hobbies include religously following the Detroit Tigers, monthly steak night, texas hold'em poker, and his fantasy football and baseball leagues with college buddies.

Rene Perrin, Director of Middle School Bands.

René is originally from the East side of Michigan spending her early years in Utica and Sterling Heights and graduating from Henry Ford II High School in 1995.  It was during her time at Henry Ford II high school that she made the decision to study music education.  She attended Aquinas College in Grand Rapids for 2 years and then transferred to Western Michigan University where she spent time as section leader of clarinet sections in both the Bronco Marching Band and Symphonic bands.  René also spent a semester performing with the WMU concert orchestra.  She did her student teaching at Mattawan high school and graduated from Western in December of 2000.

In the Winter of 2001, René starting a teaching position as assistant band director for Gull Lake Community Schools.  In the Fall of 2002 René became the Middle School Band director for Plainwell Community Schools.  She also married Andy Perrin that November who was a graduate of Plainwell High School.  She taught band at the Middle School for 8 wonderful years during which time she and Andy welcomed their daughters Mia and Olivia into their family.  In 2010 it was time for a new adventure for René as she took the position of elementary music teacher at Starr in Plainwell. This was a great adventure and taught her so much about where those middle school kids were coming from.  She taught elementary music for 6 years which happened to coincide with her own children being in elementary school.  In the Fall of 2015 René had the opportunity to return to the Band program in the Middle School and High School and is having an amazing time teaching the "Best students around", and is looking forward to having the elementary students she once had as well as many more in the years to come!  Go Trojans!!!
